A general understanding on the 2015 report is required.
A basic econometrics course is helpful but not required.
Course Description:
This module provides an introduction to the literature on measuring human capital, with emphases on several measurement methods, including the J-F lifetime approach, Kendrick’s cost based approach, and attribute-based approach. The application of these approaches in measuring human capital stock inChinawill be demonstrated, replicated and discussed.
This module also provides an introduction to the literature on measuring physical capital using OECD methods.
Course Grades:
The grade of this course will be determined by performance both in learning the related materials and in working on the project.
The grades for this course will also be counted as 20% of the grades for the other course, Topics on Human Capital.
The grade will be decided based on the following weights:
--Learning course materials: 40% (To be decided by 2014 students and PMC)
--Performance in the project: 45% (To be decided by Prof. Haizheng Li, PMC, and project manager)
--Physical capital part: 15% (To be decided by Prof. Carsten Holz)
Course grading in learning stage determined by 2014 students and PMC:
1. The full mark for each presentation is 100.
2. Each presentation will be graded independently by two 2nd-year students.
3. The score for each presentation or assignment should be in A 90-100 ; B 80-89 ; C 70-79 ; D 60-69 ; F below 60. In each presentation, only 20-40% students can get a score in A range; 30-40% in B range; 20-30% in C range; 10-20% in D or F range.
4. Monitor and report the attendance, 0 point for absence and 30-80 points for late arrival.
5. The final mark of this module equals to the average of the marks a 1st-year student gets for his/her presentations and the attendance.
Presentation:
Presentation plays a predominant role in this course, and is the main basis for the grade of this part. Each presentation is about 15-45 minutes long. Each covers both the time spent on presentation and discussion. Slides are required.
