Belton Fleisher attended schools in his home town of Hayward, Calfornia and received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees in Economics from Stanford University. He joined the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1961-65 and moved to the Ohio State University in 1965, where he is a Professor of Economics. He spent the year 1963-64 at the London School of Economics and went to China for the first time in spring, 1989, where he taught in the “Ford Class” at Renmin University of China. He taught there again in 1990, and since then, his research has focused on the Chinese economy. Professor Fleisher has been the author or coauthor of over 40 articles in professional journals including American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, the Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economic Education, and China Economic Review and in a number of books and symposia. He has published seven books, including The Economics of Delinquency (1966) and what is considered by many to be the first "modern" labor economics text, Labor Economics: Theory and Evidence (Prentice-Hall, 1970—coauthored with Thomas J. Kniesner in 1980). He has also served as editor of a number of symposia, roundtables, and conference proceedings, including (with Haizheng Li and Shunfeng Song), a book Inequality, Spillovers, and Market Development in China published in 2007 by Edward Elgar (UK). Another book, Policy Reform and Chinese Markets, coedited with Nicholas C. Hope, Anita Alves Pe?a, and Dennis T. Yang, is scheduled for publication by Edward Elgar in March, 2008. He is currently a Co-editor, China Economic Review.
