The conference will mark the release of the 16th annual China Human Capital Report 2024. It will feature distinguished keynote speeches, plenary and parallel sessions on critical topics related to human capital and labor markets on December 14 and December 15 preceded by an onsite reception on December 13.

Submissions

We welcome papers on topics dealing with broad areas of human capital and labor markets.

· Please submit an extended abstract (400-500 words in English) by November 20, 2024 (Eastern Standard Time) online at:

https://editorialexpress.com/conference/2024CHLR/

· Each session consists of paper presentations and discussion, both in English.

· Decision notifications will be announced on a rolling basis. Early submission is encouraged if needed for visa application. Notifications will be announced starting from mid November.

· All papers accepted for presentation must be submitted to the conference by December 1, 2024 (Beijing Time, GMT+8) so that discussants will have enough time to prepare comments.

· The conference will be in person. Only special cases will be considered for online presentation.


China Economic Review Special Issue

· All submissions accepted for presentation will be eligible for submission to a Special Issue of China Economic Review.


Keynote Speaker Bio

Petra Todd is the Edmund J. and Louise W. Kahn Term Professor of Economics. She is a research associate of NBER, the U Penn Population Studies Center, HCEO, and IZA. She also serves on the editorial board of the International Economic Review and the Econometrics Journal.  

Her research is in the areas of labor economics, economics of education, development, econometrics, criminology and demography.  She has written influential papers on matching, control function methods, and regression-discontinuity (RD) methods for evaluating the effects of treatment interventions with nonexperimental data.  Another focus of her research is on modeling household behaviors, such as choices about fertility, schooling, employment, retirement and savings.  She also participated in several randomized social experiments and was an expert consultant in designing the Progresa conditional cash transfer program experiment.  

In recent papers, she examines the importance of personality traits in explaining household interactions and as determinants of labor market outcomes.
