Barbara M. Fraumeni joined the Muskie School of Public Service of the University of Southern Maine in 2005 as a Professor of Public Policy and Chair of the Ph.D. Program in Public Policy. She also serves on the National Academy of Sciences/Committee on National Statistics Panel on Productivity in Higher Education, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe/Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development / Eurostat Task Force on Measuring Sustainable Development, as a Senior Fellow of the China Center for Human Capital and Labor Market Research of the Central University of Finance and Economics,and as a Research Fellow on the Bureau of Economic Research. She previously served as Chief Economist of the Bureau of Economic Analysis from January of 1999 until July of 2005. July 2008 to December 2011 she served as Chair for the American Economic Association's Committee, CSWEP (Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession. She holds undergraduate and doctoral degrees in economics. After graduation from Wellesley, she became a Research Assistant for Dale W. Jorgenson of the Department of Economics and the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University, beginning a research collaboration that continues to the present. From 1982 through 1998, Dr. Fraumeni was a Professor at Northeastern University. From 1988 through 1998, she was also a Research Fellow of the Program on Technology and Economic Policy, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Her most recent book publication comes from her membership on the National Research Council (National Academy of Sciences) Panel to Study the Design of Nonmarket Accounts. The panel book is entitled Beyond the Market: Designing Nonmarket Accounts for the United States.
