Title: Inequality of Wealth in Chinese Households: An Analysis Framework Based on Collective Decision-Making of Labor SupplySpeaker: Jing Xiang

Abstract: This paper analyzes the distribution of wealth and welfare within Chinese families within a theoretical framework based on the collective model of labor supply. Using the data of China's urban household surveys from 2003 to 2009, the results show that there is a positive correlation between individual expected wages and labor supply, while the cross-wage is the opposite. In addition, although the increase in spouse wages contributes to the reduction of inequality, wives tend to be more dedicated, which leads to an increase in women's income and welfare levels compared to men. By analyzing the distribution of resources within China's households, it can be found that inequality between men and women exists in the family. This also means that when formulating policies aimed at alleviating poverty or income disparity, it is necessary to pay attention to the resources available within the family.
